2000 Martinez

Post by jdaw1 »

As organised by George G., on Monday 10th February 2025, Some of the usual folks gathered in the Boot & Flogger, for a horizontal of 2000s.

Woe betide! What has become of us‽ A horizontal of Port from this century. Yes yes, the world has other disasters afoot, but this disaster is afoot here: what has become of us‽

Evolved nose, not in a good way. Poached figs and plums with star anise. Bitter note of cassia bark on finish. Not great.

Rose red colour, almost opaque in the centre. Earthy nose, a little baked in tone. Nice texture on entry, but the fruit is subdued. Nice structure. Bright fruit on the aftertaste and a long finish. Showing as being a little closed. 88/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
