2000 Sandeman

Post by jdaw1 »

As organised by George G., on Monday 10th February 2025, Some of the usual folks gathered in the Boot & Flogger, for a horizontal of 2000s.

Woe betide! What has become of us‽ A horizontal of Port from this century. Yes yes, the world has other disasters afoot, but this disaster is afoot here: what has become of us‽

Cork shattered. How are the cork manufacturers not ashamed?

S00. Dark red, 80% opaque. earl-palate soft red fruit, rounded, mid-palate black and red fruit both showing, white spice late. Long and big. But maybe slightly lacking structure (flabby would be too much of a concept here, maybe a quarter flabby). MPM doubted whether it will last twenty years.

Prunes on nose. Congruent palate. Not exactly weak, but not powerful. Pleasant but undistinguished.

S00: Darker and less mature than the SV, 95% opaque. The nose is lacking harmony, a little harsh. Smoother on the palate than expected from the nose, sweet and ripe. The smoothness on the palate is backed by a gentle grip. Lovely finish, great length. 90/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
