2000 Niepoort Secundum

Post by jdaw1 »

As organised by George G., on Monday 10th February 2025, Some of the usual folks gathered in the Boot & Flogger, for a horizontal of 2000s.

Woe betide! What has become of us‽ A horizontal of Port from this century. Yes yes, the world has other disasters afoot, but this disaster is afoot here: what has become of us‽

NiS00. Dark red, 80% opaque. Drier than the Niepoort, dark fruit. Perhaps the fruit is darker and the spice later. I liked. I might even have preferred this over its big sister.

NiS00: Attractive mature red, with a little bricking. Slightly soapy lavender nose. A little hollow on entry, but fills out on the palate - the most tannic of the last 6 wines on this page. Lightly fruited, some menthol on the aftertaste giving a glow of heat. Good finish of redcurrant skins. 87/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
