1922 Fonseca

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Fonseca 1922, decanted 1 hour. Nice dark tone to the mature red colour. Fresh and floral on the nose, beautiful mature fruit on the nose (although just a slight worry about TCA?). Wonderful balance on the palate, ripe fruit with a fierce acidity; enormous amounts of spice blended into the sweet fruit. The aftertaste is phenomenal, so persistent! Incredible concentrated dried fruit. Phenomenal! More time in the glass made it clear there was no TCA, just a bit of bottle age which blew off. 96/100. Drunk on 12-Dec-2024 at the 2024 Port Forum Christmas Tasting of The Unknown Shipper and His Peculiar Friends.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Huge nose, huge palate, incredibly young and spicy. A kaleidoscope of marmalades on the palate. Guessed to be a young 1955.
