NV Calem Tawny 20YO

Post by Mike J. W. »

Color: Burnt Orange, Rim: Clear, Meniscus: Thin, Weight (Viscosity): Thin, Nose: Marzipan, Crème Brulee, Charred Wood, Honey, Vanilla, Hint of Varnish, Taste: Burnt Sugar, Charred Wood, Crème Brulee, Figs, Lemon, Marzipan, Acidity: Medium, Mid-palate, Late, Sweetness Level: Medium, Mid-palate, Simple, Finish: Long, Smooth,

I was surprised how nicely this 20 year-old Tawny was drinking after being in the bottle for 34+ years (bottled in 1990). The aroma was intoxicating and there's still something in it that I can't put my finger on, but it's very pleasant. This isn't a world beater by any means, but it's a very nice example of a well aged 20 year-old that's well integrated and drinking smoothly. Score: 91 points

@ Mike - that’s a very good tasting note, allowing us to see all of the way into the bottle you drank.

Thanks George, I appreciate it. The details came from something John M. (you met him at the tasting last week) uses in his tastings. I've incorporated it into my Port Inventory spreadsheet and automated the process so I can automatically load it via a macro in Excel into my Port Consumed / Notes tab on the same spreadsheet. It makes it a lot easier to track everything. I'll be able to compare notes easier in the future as well.
