2012 Fonseca Guimaraens

Post by nac »

1st half bottle from two cases of 12 purchased EP.
Bottles are individually numbered. This one was CJV0611.

Good cork, with very little staining. Quite a lot of fine sediment.

Deep purple core, ruby at rim.

After 30 minutes in decanter, unsurprisingly still pretty closed. Maybe some dark fruit, but little else.

Palate is more forthcoming.
Plenty of ripe fruit, plus some vanilla and a touch of bitterness.
Well balanced and very drinkable but tannin still obvious. Medium length.

Quite simple, and unlikely to turn into a Great Port, but very enjoyable for fairly early drinking.

At +48 hours remembered there was still a glass left in the decanter.
Hadn’t opened up any further and the bitterness was more evident.
Should probably have finished it last night.
Have 23 more, so plenty of opportunities for tasting.
