1977 Smith Woodhouse

Post by jdaw1 »

An emergency was declared for Monday 14th April 2025, at the Boot & Flogger.

A 1977 was proffered, so another was, so another was, and the planning attracted towards an evening of 1977s. This is good.

The deep end of the spectrum of colour. In the mouth this is big rich thick licorice blackstrap port. Very satisfying. Gets an honourable mention.

Smith Woodhouse 1977. Dark red, not as dark as GC but darker than W or G. Fresh cut red plums and red pears on the nose. Nicely balanced mature fruit, sweet and jellied. Bright green tannins grip drily and rather dominate the jellied fruit. Bitter citrus finish, great length. Very good Port. 90/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
