1977 Dow

Post by jdaw1 »

An emergency was declared for Monday 14th April 2025, at the Boot & Flogger.

A 1977 was proffered, so another was, so another was, and the planning attracted towards an evening of 1977s. This is good.

Watery rim, good colour.

Nose aldehydic, VA?

Finish ends short, just behind the incisors.

Corked.

Really quite terribly damaged port. Got very smelly quite quickly.

I learnt a lot from this bottle which is great from my stand point – however I did move on very quickly.

Dow 1977. Cork fell into the bottle when touched by an Ah-So. Pop and pour. Dark brick red. A little aldehyde on the nose, just a tiny bit of TCA. Some fruit on the palate, then a wave of metallic taint and wet cardboard. Dry core to the finish. Better finish. Much worse later. Yuck.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
