Utrecht

Post by Justin K »

Trish and I are heading to Utrecht for a few nights later this month. Are there any good Port retailers? Also have you any recomendations for restaurants/bars and things to visit/see?

Hi Justin,

I snooped around online a little (I Googled "liquor stores in Utrecht"). I didn't look at every liquor store online but I looked at a good handful and the pickings appear to be slim. There is a chain liquor store there called Gall & Gall and their website showed a nice selection of Kopke Tawnies & Colheitas. Prices seemed a little high in some instances. They have several locations in Uthrecht, but I suspect they don't necessarily have all of the bottles at all of the stores. My guess is that they have to order it from their central warehouse wherever that is. But it's worth checking out and speaking to someone...if you like Tawnies & Colheitas. Check them out online.

Hi Justin,

This might be something (I've eaten there twice and was very positive) and the view is magnificent:

Hi Justin,

I've visited most (serious) wine retailers in The Netherlands and can recommend for Utrecht:
  • Het Gouden Glas: Has a small cellar under the store, bought a bottle of Taylor's 70 here a few years ago. Might have been his only bottle though.
  • Henri Bloem: Bigger store in a decent neighbourhood, bought Graham's 94 here a while ago.
For port at least, these would be my recommendations.
