2001 Fortnum and Mason

Post by winesecretary »

Fine legs. Youngish with prominent dark fruits. A touch short on the finish, but nevertheless real port. Tasted blind, guessed to be Niepoort 1991. [In fact, likely to be Niepoort Secundum 2001.] Tasted 21/05/19

Sealed with a cork branded "Niepoort Secundum 2001". Deep red colour, clear but 90% opaque. A little soft raspberry on the nose, with the raspberry fruit also showing strongly on the entry. Young and a little aggressive on the palate with lots of fragrant primary fruit and a gentle grip. A good aftertaste with lots of fruit and a long finish. Served blind this was guessed to be Niepoort 2000. 90/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
