The Horizontal of 1970s, definite article, was held over two days and five flights, Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd October 2025, at the Boot & Flogger, as organised by Mike who was assisted by Julian.
1970 Taylor, private bottling by an Irish country estate. Very dark with a centre that is almost opaque. Big black and red berry fruit on the nose, with fruit on the palate that is so primary! Black wine gums and Bertie Basset liquorice. Massive! The aftertaste is dominated by bramble fruit and black liquorice, wonderful long finish of aniseed balls. Sweet but powerful. Delicious! 95/100. Double decanted 5 hours.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
2026: DR Very Old White, Graham Stone Terraces 2011, Quevedo Branco 1986 b.2026
Note taken on 12/10/25 from sample kindly bottled on night. Very dark wine. Big rich lovely nose. Huge palate of blackberry pie. Very long finish. Admirable wine. Admirable, admirable wine.
