S70: red-brown, 40% opaque; weird combination of maraschino cherries and intense dryness. Even drier late palate.

1970 Sandeman. Bronze red colour, 40%. Slightly dusty dried red fruit on the nose. Lovely dried red fruit on the palate, bright and ripe, expressing itself gloriously! The aftertaste is gently sweet, fragrant and very long. This is punching way ahead of what I would expect. 93/100. From the cellars of Blenheim Palace. Double decanted 5 hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

I didn’t taste this bottle, but I have tasted bottles from the same cellar, and they are wonderful, streets ahead of any other Sandeman 1970 I have ever had. So I am not surprised this one was good.

Note taken on 12/10/25 from sample kindly bottled on night. Attractive colour. Light pretty colour. Very dry indeed. Rather attractive pontefract cake note on the finish. From Julian's side of the table, I think. Attractive but not stellar.
