Cá70: dark dark red, 80% opaque; big plums, lovely, but hot mid-palate.

1970 Cálem. Dark red with a hint of bronze in the tone, 90% opaque. Fresh cut red fruit on the nose, nicely expressive. On the palate the texture has a lovely satin smoothness. The wine is rich in black cherry with some cracked red pepper heat. A touch of dry tannins shows on the big black fruit of the palate. The rich black plum and black damson deliver a long and delicious finish. 92/100. Double decanted 8 hours. Bottled in the UK by Sherry House Limited, London W1M 8LP. (The old, now inactive, W1M 8LP postcode was withdrawn in 2000 and covered a geographic region centred around an area which corresponds loosely to the junction of New Cavendish Street and Marylebone Street in London.)
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

[Sample taken on night and consumed on 13/10/25] Big dark red wine. Pale only at rim. Mose of poached SA plums. Palate welcomingly sweet and lush, but still with some firmness on the palate. Some lovely cherry stone late. Alive and well in well stored bottles. A pleasure to drink.
