The pheonix lives on: Tuesday 28th October 2025 - Blind bring a bottle

Post by nac »

Unfortunately George has been other wise detained so Neil and I will be re-scheduling the

Taylor Vertical - Post WW2 - 28 October 2025

for a new date in 2026 that George can actually make !! watch this space for more details

In the mean time we have a room booked and a deposit taken so the plan is to push ahead - who does not like drinking port - and run a bring a bottle party.

As such can you please confirm your continuing attendance at the event

At present to line up looks like

People
  1. MSC = Martin;
  2. NigelM = Nigel;
  3. nac = Neil;
  4. JDAW = Julian;
  5. AHB = Alex;
  6. Bertie3000 = Michael;
  7. CPR1 = Charles;
  8. Flash = Mike;
  9. pommy42;
  10. Dan A.;
This is now a blind tasting - bring something interesting and we can all make fools of ourselfs guessing !

Current draft of the placemats.

Tue 28th Oct 2025 still works for me.

Is there a theme other than ‘Port’? Blind or sighted?

Peeps: post food order from menu.

• Soup of the day;
• Pie of the day (if meat), + fries, + carrots;
• Bramdean pudding (no W.R.!).

I’m in. I’ll bring something that fits the theme. I note it’s “bring a blinded bottle” and not “bring a blinded bottle of Port”…
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

As happened with the original organiser of the original tasting, my plans have been forced to change.

Sadly, I can’t be at the tasting next week. Sorry all.

Shame.

Will update the food order at the weekend in case of further changes.

Also, I’ll bring a second bottle now we don’t have three from Alex.

Alex no longer attending, but his food order is in. I have not changed the food order.

Julian’s guest is now attending and is getting Alex’s food.

Will leave Julian to liaise and amend this as required. OK?

That guest of Julian has been unabled. Julian’s new guest, MJT = Matthew, enabled.

The placemats have been updated, and will be printed by Martin.

Ah. As in “Confused? You will be.”

Elizabeth and I used to watch it every Friday when I was at university.

Mike was returning officer, and so has the score sheet.

CPR’s excellent T77 rightly was WOTN. A different T77 was much weaker. JDAW was a podiumed G77; MJT was a corked D77.

Well, there was a lot more Port than I was expecting. And I’m very impressed by the scoring. Clearly you lot are now starting to drink enough Port to recognise what you’re drinking. Apart from JDAW. He obviously isn’t drinking enough Port and needs to build up more experience.

Lucky I wasn’t there. I’d have brought the standard right down.
