A single bottle from the wine department at Fortnum and Mason sometime in 1998 I think. £30.

Opened 0900, decanted 1400, back in bottle 1630.

Quinta do Noval 1995: ruby red colour, 80% opaque. Concentrated fresh bramble in the nose with a touch of caramel. Disappointing palate with the fruit a little stewed. But under the fruit is a nice acidity which does allow the fruit to develop. Cedar and dried red berry finish, which slowly changes to a woody liquorice root. This could have been stunning but remains a lovely wine despite being a slightly compromised bottle. 90/100.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
