It's a camel spider (which is not actually a spider, but part of the same family as scorpions). Apparently they are not poisenous, but they can do quite a bit of harm with their jaws. Which, as you can see, are a major part of the little bugger (the total size of the animal was about 10cm).
Now, finding this animal wasn't too bad. We killed it, and that was that. But there is a tail to the story, literally.
Another, more frequent, guest in our garden is "Sneaky". She's a stray cat, and we call her Sneaky, because she always finds a way to sneak back into our garden, after we told her off. A couple of days ago I noticed that she lost her tail. Weird. I wondered how this could have happened. A fight with another stray cat? Run over by a car? And then yesterday, LadyR found the tail in our garden. Close to the place where we found the camel spider. We can't proof it, of course, but it seems very likely that Sneaky got into a fight with Mr. Jaws and he bit her tail off. Ouch.
