You can't have that one anyway. That's AHB's title.

Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

  • A preference has been expressed to hold this on a Firday, although scanning the thread above I can't determine the reasoning
  • Tom will be blowing things up on 6th November
  • Axel, Tom and Christopher are drinking Niepoorts in Germany on 27th November
  • The invited guest from the Symington family cannot make 20th November due to a company AGM on the same date
  • The only Friday in November that seems to suit all is the 13th, but the RAF Club isn't available that day.
Options are:
  1. choose a night other than a Friday
  2. choose another venue (Criusting Pipe?) and go for 13th November
  3. invite a different guest on the 20th November
  4. do this without guests from the producers on 20th November
Does anyone have any firm views on any of these things or any other suggested options?

My preference would be to keep the date of Friday 13th, but investigate other possible venues.

I'll have a dig around and see what I can come up with.

I'm hoping to bring a guest with me who I have long been trying to persuade to attend one of our offlines. Please could I therefore be AHB +1 for the purposes of headcounts.

A Saturday should work for me, too. Can also give a hand finding alternative venues, if desired.

Is there any significance in the Guests being downgraded from ‘Honoured’ to ‘Invited’? :)

Shall we invite another guest not from the company. E.g. some other wine critique like Godfrey Spence, Richard Mayson or so? I could ask if wanted. Then we have one producer and one other guest.

On the other hand I would not go and change date and/or location due to this. We could alternatively live with one of them, too, can we?

Personally, I would very much prefer to have a representative from each of the families. If we are doing a "taste off", comparing Taylor's best to the Symington's best then it would be much more fun to do this with both families participating.

My preference would be to look for a date where both could attend - changing the date or venue if required.

I will have to make you 1st Reserve as we are maxed out at 14 at the moment. Four have yet to confirm and others confirmed before knowing the date so watch this space

Question:

Given that this thread deviated from the original theme, should I start a new thread now that time and place have been confirmed or should I change the title of this thread?

Yes. But do it by posting in this topic and then splitting that post to a new topic. (I suspect that the split will drag with it all of this topic’s subscriptions: perhaps people will let me know by PM whether it works.)
