Irish Port Tasting, Parknasilla, End July

Post by Axel P »

Is somebody in the vicinity of this Hotel from July 28th to August 1st? Maybe we could organise something.

I may have to go to Ireland in early summer and could possibly arrange to be there on a workday evening at the end of July.

But where is Parknasilla?
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Yeah, right. It is Co. Kerry in the very southwest of Ireland. Down at the coast:

We could play a round of golf there prior to drinking as I am a club member there.

Please to learn that it isn’t the port that’s Irish, only the location.

I shan’t ask what a NATO pilot is doing in a neutral country.

Since my parents are irish residents, I think you could inherit this right.

Anyways, Ireland does not have a real armed force, but they are in the NATO. At least they have been, when I was at the academy. :)

Which doesn’t obviously include Ireland. There is some history to this Ireland doing things of which it is no longer proud as revenge for things done by Britain of which it is no longer proud.

Good that someone tells me before we make any further alliances. But anyways. 2 helicopters, a speedboat and 25 rifles. I guess that summs it up nicely for the normal texan neighbourhood.

Would have been a useless member militarywise anyways.

Thanks for the update.

As a former member of the Irish armed forces I suppose I should feel insulted but as any miltary historian will tell you both British and American forces are and have been jam packed with Irish participants, Wellington and Montgomery to name but a few. We pay an active involvement in the UN (Lebanon, Somalia, Balkans etc) where we manage to endear ourselves to the locals without getting shot! Anyway I am still interested in meeting up for some port (the third Irish tasting....see Alex) where I can educate you all on hundred of years of British occupation (Cromwell etc.) I would also be interested in golf but I won't be troubling anyone in competitive mood.

Can't find a two fingered smily!

Welcome. Your first post! May I start an introduction thread about you, or, better yet, will you?

Which didn’t contradict

And as you say, the Irish have served competently and honourably under the Crown, even after independence.

None of which really advances far more important plans for port in Ireland.
