1948 Fonseca vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep cherry red in colour, with a transparent centre. Subdued on the nose, a touch of heat (the room was quite hot) and full of stewed rhubarb. Dry entry, still quite tannic but full of fruit. Quite sweet and with lovely development. Heat - big heat - on swallowing, which burns slightly before giving way to a luscious melted chocolate. 97/100. Drunk 29 June 2009.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
