Label paper

I have just delivered a carton of OB '66 Dow (not a wooden case, BTW..) to my cellar, and have had to re-affix every single label.

For those faced with a similar dilemma; I find ordinary wallpaper paste, made up a few times stronger than recommended on the packet; works fine, and keeps for ages in a sealed jar or pot.

What interested me was the paper used for the labels.

It is clearly a fairly light paper, maybe 60 or 80gsm; but is also quite well loaded. Yet papers loaded with China Clay tend to be glossy, while this is matt.

While it is not different from other labels, it occurred to me that this is not a paper that you see used elsewhere.

Anyone know the normal specification for label paper?

I have a collection of 20-30 labels, ranging from 1950s to the 1990s. I don't know enough about paper to be able to make any useful comment, but you are welcome to take a look at them when you next visit my house.

Incidentally, Dow seem to have gone through a phase of putting their bottles into Original Cardboard Cases (OCC) rather than wood. I have only seen two original cardboard cases - Dow 1970 and Constantino 1963. Has anyone seen any other wines put into OCC?

I've seen similar cartons used for Dow and Warre 1975. The construction of these cartons, and the arrangement of the bottles, is almost identical to the inner cardboard used in the Symington's wooden cases.

Recently I bought 12 btls Messias Cachao 1970, delivered in an orignal paper carton, still well in shape though.
