Oporto tasting on August 13
Oporto tasting on August 13
Hello Port lovers,
I'm getting ready for my annual vacation in northwestern Spain, and one of the things I always do is drop down to Oporto for some lodge visits. On the off chance that anyone is available, I've arranged a Vintage Port tasting at the Taylor Fladgate lodge on August 13th at 3 pm. I'm sure it will be nothing like the amazing offlines you guys seem to organize and find, but I'm sure it will be fun. I'm not sure what they will be serving but it wont be the standard Vila Nova rubies and white port.
On the off chance than anyone is available it would be great to meet any of you in Oporto, drink some port, and perhaps go out after and enjoy a nice dinner and more port, followed by a walk to a bar for a nightcap of port.
Cheers,
Portman (Bill)

Would love to, but, alas, I’ll be in port-free Paris.
Re: Oporto tasting on August 13
JDaw, you moved to Paris from New York, right? Don't you find it odd that Oporto is overrun with enthusiastic French drinking white port and cheap rubies, but in the land of La Tour D'Argent, First Growths, and Romanee Conti, Vintage port is not accorded its rightful place in the gastronomic hierarchy?
Perhaps this should be a thread topic.

The French can be narrow-mindedly nationalistic. The only major democracy to have regular military parades. And they seem to believe that they make all the wine worth drinking. Odd? No, I’m British, and therefore immune to being disappointed by the French. (Casual conversation suggests that they return the compliment.)Â ![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Bill,
Enjoy your visit and vacation. Sadly, unless you can pop up to London from Northern Spain, we are unlikely to meet this trip.

I will get together with you guys at some point. We are ensconced in our little fishing village and enjoying some fabulous weather, food and wine here in Spain. I'll post on my visit to Oporto later this week. Portman

Wrapping up here in Spain this week. We had a very nice tasting at Taylor last week, which I will post about when I have more time.
The highlight was the 2007 Vintage, which was really impressive. It is going to be a classic, immortal Taylor.
