1966 Fonseca vintage port
Double decanted. Good colour, deep but transparent centre. Very open (more than the '63 shown alongside) and inviting nose, full of mulled wine and sweet cherries. Gentle spiciness in the mouth; good complexity in the mouth with plenty of fruit and fully integrated tannins. Slightly hot aftertaste, but then a long and flavoursome sweet finish. Very long and delicious. Extremely impressive. 93/100, drunk 14 October 2009 after 14 hours of decanting.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Re: 1966 Fonseca vintage port
The final sample being drunk to celebrate AHB's 46th birthday, one week after decanting.
Lovely spicy nose. Thick and chewy with fabulous texture and body. The tannins that were evident in this one week ago have melded away and the finish is long, sweet and absolutely delicious.
Happy birthday, AHB.
