2002 Suduiraut

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Opened a half bottle of the 2002 Suduiraut last week. Surprisingly dark colour for such a young sauterne. Very sweet, but with a good balancing acidity. I was pleasantly surprised by the wine, given the poor reputation of the year. Provided you don't pay too much, this is worth buying. I bought this in a supermarket discount sale for £7 and would buy more at that price.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

OK, the thing I get from this is that you forgot to mention the supermarket and discount at the time. I love Sauternes and Suduiraut is one of the top ones (ask Christian). Surprised about the colour but the price is staggering.
Port is basically a red drink

The supermarket was Sainsbury, but only the one in Camberley as far as I could tell, and it was about 3-4 years ago - just after Christmas in their wine clearance sale. I also picked up a half bottle of Y'quem '01 for £50 from the same supermarket.

thanks for the note on this one. I've not had the 2002, but I do love the 2001 Suduiraut and the 2003 is no slouch either.

With these price levels I do defintely need uk-supermarkets around here. I had the Suduiraut 02 at the Chateau in 2005. IMO it is a good and decent Sauternes, but nowhere close to the 2001 or the 2003.
