On the grounds that many of us also drink other wines, I'm putting a thread for any offers that look good. Inspired by the Champagne thread, which may get one on its own and a bargain at Morrison's:
Penfold's Winemaker's Selection Shiraz - Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 £4.45 ea (limited to six cases per customer!)
Had a bottle last night as a tester. Very fruity nose but a good solid backbone of tannin and acidity, truly excellent for under a fiver.

Re: Wine offers
Something more sensible this time..
Fans of NZ Pinot Noir should have a look at the Majestic offers. Fairleigh Estate (made by Wither Hills) is probably the best buy at £8; '06 and '07 were very good and am looking forward to picking up some of the '08.

What could be more sensible than a £10bottle of wine going for a fiver?angeleyes wrote:Something more sensible this time...
I am ambivalent about Marlborough Pinots, I have had mixed success with them and think they do well with a bit of age. I'm not willing to crash Majestic for a 20% discount offer on an unknown then be forced to buy another ten bottles. May have to give this a miss.

Apologies, was referring to a rant I put up and then removed when a little more soberKillerB wrote:What could be more sensible than a £10bottle of wine going for a fiver?angeleyes wrote:Something more sensible this time...

The branch by Vinopolis allows you to buy single bottles (probably not very useful to you!) and I think most branches allow 6 bottles purchases if you collect. Not a big fan of Majestic myself, but I think they do come up with the occasional good buys.KillerB wrote:I am ambivalent about Marlborough Pinots, I have had mixed success with them and think they do well with a bit of age. Now understand.
When I say ambivalent about Marlborough PN, I am being very specific. I have had Central Otago Pinots of exceptional quality, New Zealand does great Pinot Noir.
I haven't been to a Majestic recently having been put off by veiled poor offers and the twelve bottle rule. Will check again.

Re: Wine offers
I read somewhere that Majestic will give up their Vinopolis branch soon. It is going to be replaced by a branch of Laithwaites. I believe the contract ended and Vinopolis and Majestic weren't able to reach a new agreement. Laithwaites jumped in.angeleyes wrote:The branch by Vinopolis allows you to buy single bottles (probably not very useful to you!) and I think most branches allow 6 bottles purchases if you collect.
