2008 Single Quinta Vintage Port Taylor Fladgate

Post by WS1 »

Hi there,

just received an offer of 2008 Single Quinta Vintage Ports of Taylor Fladgate (Vargellas, Terre Feita, Panascal, Guimarens and da Roeda). Does anyone have already tried those?
Found this offer is very early; e.g. at the Malvedos tasting the 2008 Malvedos was still work in progress.

regards

That's probably because the Symingtons tend to release their secondary-years SQVP when they are about 10 years old whilst the TFP treats them more like a Vintage Port; declaring at the end of April and releasing soon after.

Any good prices on these?

Hi Jacob,

prices IB (excluding duty and VAT) on the offer per 12bts are:

Vargellas 174£
Terra Feita 149£
Panascal 142£
Guimarens 158£
da Roeda 119£

They also offer a vintage Collection Tri-pack of 4bt each Vargellas, Roeda and Panascal for 186£ IB

Do think the prices are good?

I suppose it really depends on how much you usually pay for your Port. If you spend all your time trawling the auctions and buying in supermarket sales, those are going to be pretty high, but I think compared to normal retail prices, I would have thought that those are reasonable. I've always been impressed by Terra Feita and £12 per bottle would be tempting for me.

Does anybody have any early views on this vintage? I'm always a bit dubious about buying port so early on, but I quite like the fact that TFP are doing mixed cases.

WS1 - may you tell us where those prices are from? BBR have yet to release anything.

Derek and I have some samples to work through. I am tasting completely blind so I don't even know if the TFP quintas are included. Give us about a month to work through the samples (I have 9 litres of port to taste from ½ bottles!) and we'll post our thoughts on TPF.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: DR Very Old White, Graham Stone Terraces 2011, Quevedo Branco 1986 b.2026

Did they breed on the journey south from Baslow? I only gave you 6 litres
