Very nice price. But they do have insane shipping costs. That's what they told me some months ago for Germany.RonnieRoots wrote:Fonseca 2007 on sale at Garrafeira Nacional. Only 45 euro a bottle.

Those shipping costs are quite high indeed. But still, it amounts to around 8 euro a bottle, and 53 euro for a bottle of Fonseca 2007 is probably much cheaper than anything you can find in either Germany or Holland. I know it's around 80 euro at Ton Overmars.Michael M. wrote:Very nice price. But they do have insane shipping costs. Re: Port for sale by retailer
Slurp.co.uk has a range of Ports from de la Rosa; Romaneira and Infantado (amongst others) and offers £20 of your first order (with the code ‟newslurper”) which makes prices for a single case quite attractive. I’ve just bought a case of unfiltered 2004 LBV from Infantado for about £8.50 a bottle.
Re: Port for sale by retailer
I was in that shop 3 months ago, but it's a pity about the Euro exchange rate!RonnieRoots wrote:Fonseca 2007 on sale at Garrafeira Nacional. Only 45 euro a bottle.
On another note, Virgin Wines are doing Croft Quinta da Roeda '97 at £17, and depending upon accumulation of Winebank 'interest' works out at under £13.

Ronald, your are quite right with your total view. But I find those prices to be bawdy and I am not willing to support that. BTW: The shipping of 12 bottles from Germany to Portugal by the German company HERMES would cost 18,90 EUR- insurance included.RonnieRoots wrote:Those shipping costs are quite high indeed. Seckford's has recently added 6 bottles of the 1992 Niepoort at 30gbp per (DP). I would gladly take one (I've had it before and thought it was great, but my flat...er...my cellar...is bursting). Anyone have an interest in the remaining bottles? They have also added 6 bottles of the 1991 at the same price.
Lemme know.

Re: Port for sale by retailer
HDH has picked up a collection with a lot of Port in it. The prices are retail-good (which makes them avg for those of us watching the market
).
They'll be posted this evening on the website, but if you are interested in getting in early, contact Maria E. in HDH Sales.
Here's what came in:
Romariz63Col, G70 ($130), G77, W77, F85, SW85, T85, G91, Ch94, D94, GC94, G94, SW94, G(M)95, F97, GC97, G97, SW97, T97, D(SdR)98, Vesuv98, D00, F00, NN00 ($600), T00
There are a bunch of halfs scattered in there too (like 40 hb of F97 @ $35). As the Fi doesn't drink, i am starting to think they may be a wise pick up for casual drinking.

Tesco now stocking a new vintage BOB "Finest" vintage port - 2000 - in half bottles at £9.99. Come the Christmas deals, this may be a good purchase. The only mention of the shipper is "Symington Family Estates".

Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

However, since the going rate for a '70 Taylor in the US is usually around $120-$150 I'm far more inclined to believe that the listed price is for a single bottle.

Colheita 1983 - £35.75 Each. 1983 is amongst the best Port vintages of the previous century, with outstanding, powerful wines, but unjustly overshadowed by the 1985s and the 1977's before them. The delicate, nutty flavours in this wine make it a perfect dessert wine for springtime, where a richer, heavier Vintage Port is more suitable for cold winter evenings.
Colheita 1982 - £38.06 Each. 1982 was a relatively dry year with a very cold winter and warm summer. Budbreak hit earlier than usual, providing lower yields for a small, but delicious Port. These gems are known to take on the mahogany colour of old Tawnies with age, along with a complex bouquet, nutty palate and silky texture.
Quinta do Retiro Novo Vintage 2000 - £45.55 EACH ”“ The Quinta do Retiro Novo 2000 is immense, dense and powerful with evident tannic structure, spicy red fruit and great power on the palate and finish. Super ripe, forward style for the long term.

Benefits greatly from a long breathing period.
Colheita 1968 - £90.74 Each. Charming complex wine, with a citrus/orange lift and toffeed low notes, the lovely sweetness is countered by good acidity and oxidative notes. This is an exciting wine because of all the component sensations which provide a very pleasing whole.
Colheita 1967 - £96.59 Each ”“ A deliciously sweet, nutty, wine brimming with freshly cracked walnuts and pecans, the fruit being reminiscent of caramelised figs, and layers of woody, brown spices. All flavours are in total harmony, the sweetness perfectly balanced with good acidity, for a long lasting finish.

Colheita 1961 - £134.36. Very dark in colour, intense aroma, with coffee, chocolate and raisins, and an immense structure and powerful finish. Fat and full on the palate, with notes of dried fruit.
Vintage 1970 - £159.49 EACH ”“ A classic Vintage year, with great balance, good structure, and long-lived. One of the absolute finest Vintage Ports of the last 50 years. This is classic port still on a seemingly limitless plateau of maturity and elegant style.

Colheita 1994 - £16 E.12 EACH ”“ RECOMENDED, 1994 was one of the best vintage years of the 20th century. This Colheita was made with grapes of Quevedo's main vineyard, the Quinta Vale d’Agodinho and it is aged in oak barrels for 16 years.
Colheita Port 1992 - £16.12 EACH ”“ This Colheita was made with grapes of Quevedo's main vineyard, the Quinta Vale d’Agodinho and it is aged in oak barrels for 17 years.
Vintage 2005 - £27.15 EACH ”“ Produced exclusively from the harvest of 2005, Vintage Port progesses gradually for 10 to 50 years in the bottle. Vintage Port charms in almost all stages of its life in the bottle. Deep ruby in the first 5 years, after 10 years the tones become garnet and attain a plenitude of aromas and flavours of ripe fruit and the same time as creating a light sediment. As the wine matures, its colour turns to a rich golden brown and its fruit acquires a greater subtlety and complexity.

Tesco are selling half bottles of Croft Unfiltered LBV 2004 at £3.99 (half price) with and extra 5% off if you buy 6 or more.
To give you an idea of how good a QPR deal I think this is, I just bought 51 to add to the 36 I already have in the cellar from a similar deal last year - and I have drunk around 36 of these in the past 12 months

Welcome to the forum - and delighted that you are as impressed by the Croft LBV as we are. It's a very good price to quality ratio.rackem wrote:Hi
I'm new to the forum and after reading this post i happen to find myself in Tesco's today and bought 6 bottles of the croft mentioned earlier.
All i can say is very impressed!! while not new to port i have a lot to learn and if this is the sort of advise i can pick up from here then sign me up!!!
This port punches way above its price tag!

Re: Port for sale by retailer
Tesco have stopped the discount on the Croft 2004 in half bottles, but are now selling the Croft 2005 LBV (Unfiltered; bottled 2010) with a 50% discount for £7 per full bottle.
Sadly, Tesco's current "buy 6 bottles and get 25% off" offer does not apply to fortified wines.

This is on port at present not sherry so bag another 25% off available until 7th November £5.25/bottle instead of £14 limit to 12 per online orderAHB wrote:Tesco have stopped the discount on the Croft 2004 in half bottles, but are now selling the Croft 2005 LBV (Unfiltered; bottled 2010) with a 50% discount for £7 per full bottle.

You need to order via groceries and not via wine by the case hence the limit of 12 bottlesclawhit wrote:This is on port at present not sherry so bag another 25% off available until 7th November £5.25/bottle instead of £14 limit to 12 per online orderAHB wrote:Tesco have stopped the discount on the Croft 2004 in half bottles, but are now selling the Croft 2005 LBV (Unfiltered; bottled 2010) with a 50% discount for £7 per full bottle.

Also Ocado and Waitrose Wines are currently doing 25% discounts on 6 and 12 bottle purchases respectively.

M&S have just started putting their Christmas port on the shelves in Croydon today. Not exactly sure what it is, but appears to be a Fladgate 1994 vintage at £26.99

Re: Port for sale by retailer
Is anyone able to confirm whether the 2005 Croft lbv is as good (or nearly as good) as the 2004?
Unfortunately the 1/2 price deal at Tesco ends a couple of days before the "daily drinker" tasting, and the extra 25% off this Sunday, so would be good to know if anyone had already opened one and has initial impressions (though, at £5.25, I suspect you can't go wrong picking up a few!).

Confirmed on call to Tesco customer services that 25% off also applies to port and sherry (though did not confirm whether it applied to bottles already the subject of a different offer).
Their "wine by the case" site now shows 25% discount as well....

I called them to make sure it was, as stated previously you have to order via the groceries to get the discount instead of the wine by the case - all very confusing if you ask me!DRT wrote:I was told that the 25% off for 6 bottles deal excluded fortified winesRAYC wrote:Is anyone able to confirm whether the 2005 Croft lbv is as good (or nearly as good) as the 2004?

Sorry not had the 2004 so can't comment on that but just had a bottle of the 2005 and it is good very alcoholic but for £5.25 I don't think you can go wrong, I'm sticking at my 12 now 10 bottles (gave one to neighbour to try) as I buckled and bought a case of 70 Warre today, also I think the M&S VP should be on special within the next week or two and for me that will be a good buy.

Re: Port for sale by retailer
I really appreciate you posting this. I went into Tesco this morning and again asked the manager if fortified wine was included in the buy 6, get 25% discount offer.clawhit wrote:This is on port at present not sherry so bag another 25% off available until 7th November £5.25/bottle instead of £14 limit to 12 per online orderAHB wrote:Tesco have stopped the discount on the Croft 2004 in half bottles, but are now selling the Croft 2005 LBV (Unfiltered; bottled 2010) with a 50% discount for £7 per full bottle.

Again, he said no.
So we compromised and I scanned 6 bottles of Croft 2005 LBV and, as if by magic, the 25% discount appeared. I left with these 6 bottles (all they had) and 6 bottles of the Tesco 1994 vintage port. Now all I have to do is to figure out where to keep them for the next few months!

Excellent I'm glad you managed to get some - the 94 is a good call also. It turns a good deal into an outstanding deal happy drinkingAHB wrote:I really appreciate you posting this. Re: Port for sale by retailer
Yes last year that went 25% off. I popped into my m&s last night and talking to them they indicated it was a glitch on the tills which took 25% off all wines and spirits. I'll know within the next couple of weeks though as that is when all they Christmas codes come out. It was a beautiful port and I was gutted that I didn't purchase more of it - in saying that though I am not sure I would pay full price as given that Tesco's VP is the same year and is on special offer at the moment I don't think it justifies the 100% extra price tag. I'll keep you posted as to any discounts that come up.benread wrote:Do you mean the 1994 they have just put on the shelves?clawhit wrote:, also I think the M&S VP should be on special within the next week or two and for me that will be a good buy.

JUST GOT A PRIVATE OFFER (i.e., NO VAT) FOR 1 CASE of 1970 TAYLOR FOR 1,200.
I'd only be interested in a bottle or two (as my house is already overflowing with bottles). Anyone interested in the rest?

UK or US?
(Yes, I'm interested, but really only if it's a US-based deal. Shipping to the US from the UK is ridiculously expensive.)

Re: Port for sale by retailer
GBP 1200 for a case of Taylor 1970 is more than I have been paying recently (£71-88 inc. VAT). The provenance would have to be exceptional to make it worth that much. Any idea of the provenance?Chris Doty wrote:JUST GOT A PRIVATE OFFER (i.e., NO VAT) FOR 1 CASE of 1970 TAYLOR FOR 1,200.
