NWR: Last Week in London :(

Post by Chris Doty »

As I hope most of you are already aware, I am scheduled to return to New Jack City in the early evening hours of Friday the 15th of April.

It is a sweet & sour kind of experience, and certainly one of the things I am bound to miss most about my time on these shores will be TPF community. It has been an incredible experience to be welcomed (with well-deserved skepticism), into your ranks, and in addition to the incredible learning experience, your friendship has been a great blessing.

I am going to organize some form of wine-related dinner on Thursday night for this board and for the wine-pages community, and would be awfully pleased to be able to say a final goodbye. Details are still TBD, I will start a thread on this board, and there is one located here: http://www.wine-pages.com/ubb/ultimateb ... 2;t=000703

I expect to be over here frequently, and will do my best to bring the NY Chapter up to snuff.

Warm regards, and sincerest thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

this is sad news! :? Also I am afraid to say I cannot join you on the 14th of April since i will be on holiday (pick up wines in Burgundy and the Rhone :D )
Hope you are back soon. Despite I am sure NY is great (I am sorry to say all what i know in the US is California in particular Sonoma and Napa very well not to say by the cm :D  ) you may also miss London and its vibrant wine/port culture.

regards

Chris: you have been added the phpBB group, New York tasters. To make Port happen in New York the best course is to start (and maintain) a thread in Organising Tastings and Get-togethers proposing arrangements, and then to send a private message to members of New York tasters drawing attention to that thread.

Good luck.

Chris,

our tasting notes will be far less colourful without you. Some of your classics include:

The blonde cheerleader from Kansas
The blue collar port
Snow White in Paris
The girl with tattoos
The dwarf from Lord of the Rings

There is one other I wanted to find, which I had thought was from the Vesuvio tasting, but I cannot see it. It was a reference to someone (The Monkeys?) following a major act (The Beatles?) on some US chat show. Perfectly described the particular wines at the time!

Enjoy NY and let us know when you are in London and armed with a VP that needs drinking. For my part, I am butchering (literally) a fore rib of beef on Thursday night before eating the rib-eye that I shall cut from it! Have a good evening.

Unfortunately, I am due to be in Glasgow on Thursday so can't make it. If my schedule changes I will let you know.

Best of luck trying to kick those Yankees into shape. They seem to have gone soft since JDAW left town

You have certainly added a new dimension to our tastings on this side of the pond and I hope to see you over here again soon.

Cheers.

Derek

PS: Thanks for the links to the TN, Ben, and thanks to Chris for writing them - the last one made me laugh out loud while sipping/splurting my Sunday morning coffee

Chris,

Sadly I can't make it into London on Thursday night so will miss the chance to bid you farewell. I rarely (as in, never) get to NY these days so will only be able to catch up with you if and when you travel over to this side of the pond.

We'll miss you and I'm glad that we were able to make you feel welcome during your short time in London. Please let us know when you next come to the UK.

Will your email remain the same? If so, I'll keep in touch with you this way.

Take care,

Alex

Chris; I'm really sorry but I won't be able to come this evening: I've been out of the country and haven't had a chance to look at :tpf: since you posted this thread. I hope you have a great time. It's been fabulous having you at tastings over here and hopefully you'll visit the UK or Portugal soon enough! In any event I'm sure we'll meet up again when I next make it over the Pond (along with the rest of :tpf: East-coast contingent!).
