1991 Quinta do Vesuvio vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep red in colour, dark centre with a firm rim; 95% opaque. Youthful nose, spicy vibrant red fruit. A lovely nose, but slightly raw. On the palate, ripe blackcurrant fruit and lively tannins that are nicely balanced. Fruit dominated palate with the fruit having great purity and focus. Good balance, if a touch youthful. Young aftertaste, a touch acidic but the a pronounced sweet blackcurrant finish. Would benefit from another 10-20 years to reach a smooth and integrated plateau. 89/100. Drunk 11 November 2011 with a 1 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

No notes - i suspect this will be better with a few more years in the bottle and a few more hours in the decanter - but good fruity port that is still enjoyable now and i suspect one of the more serious 91s
