Port, cheese and chocolate

Post by PhilW »

The topic of port+cheese seems to come up fairly regularly, and port+chocolate occaisionally (as recently on ftlop). I'm in the (possibly one-man) camp of enjoying cheese and chocolate very much for their own sake, and sometimes enjoy either or both with port.

An additional admission - as a teen, I once had a comic (I think a Beano, could have been a Viz...) which has a character in it who was supposed to be intentionally disgusting, and one issue included a recipe where he made chocolate coated lumps of cheese. This seemed like a brilliant idea to me, with the right cheese and chocolate, though almost anyone I mention this to seems to think I'm crazy. Hey ho. Anyway...

So, thanks to my wife this month I received this - which additionally came with a bottle of ruby port (not in the picture) - finally someone else must have recognised what I always knew - that cheese and chocolate can indeed go well together, and that adding port to the mix works superbly! I am well sated :D
