Re: 1977 Fonseca vintage port

Deep red with a mahogany rim; 40% opaque. Fresh on the nose, attarctive, smelling of blackcurrants and vanilla. Sweet fruit dominates the entry, full of the blueberries of youth but with some mature caramelised meat juices giving complexity and depth. This is still pwerful and assertive; still too young to be at its peak. Tingling and sweet aftertaste and a finish of huge length. This will be a monumental port, but is still so young. Served blind this was guessed to be Graham 1985. 89/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
