1966 Gould Campbell

Post by jdaw1 »

Some of the obvious suspects gathered, with Stephanie T. Galley (friend of wife of jdaw1), in The Bung Hole, to drink some 1966s.

GC66. Dark red, 40% opaque. Mint on the nose. Lighter than the Croft, heat, and strawberry. Slight mocha bitterness mid palate. Excellent, even though lighter.

BBR bottled. Deep red, very rich in colour, 50% opaque. Plummy nose, rich and sweet. Velvety texture on entry; less intense initially on the palate than the Croft, but grows impressively with late spiciness on the mid-palate. Big and spicy aftertaste, dry and tingling finish of great length. Really good, tannins still showing on the finish! 93/100.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
