1960 Smith Woodhouse vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Burnt sienna in colour, orange on the rim. Smelly nose, quite stinky with lots of cabbage. Sugary entry; dry and with little fruit but plenty of butterscotch and with a nice balancing acidity. Quite gentle and elegant with a lovely finish, gently perfumed and flavoured with bitter orange. 83/100. 09-Jun-12.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

SW60 red-brown, 30% opaque. Nose spirity early, later acquiring some stink. Taste starts with early heat, and a hint of strawberry, but mostly spirit. Too old without having dried out surely made for AHB.
