1997 Quinta da Eira Velha

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Described on the Corney & Barrow wine list as ""Cockburn Eira Velha"" and served by the 125ml glass.

Deep red, bricking rim; 95% opaque. Slightly smelly on the nose, perhaps a little stewed - I wonder how long this has been open? But DRT rightly pointed out that this smell is typical of the Cockburn ports made in the '90s in the large, hot facility at Canais. Restrained entry, some dry woodiness amidst the redcurrant fruit. Nice acidic structure. Medium bodied but mouthfilling with its dry fruit. Generous aftertaste and finish, long fruity length. Very pleasant drinking. 87/100. Drunk 21-Aug-12.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
