1983 Warre vintage port
Deep plum red in colour, Mature nose, full of strawberries and herbs, very attractive and developed. Modest entry, balanced, but slightly light-bodied. Soft and velvety texture, gentle sweet strawberry, and an unusual twist of straw. Lovely layering of flavours, patience really rewards with added complexity. Very soft tannins. Dusty cocoa chocolate on the aftertaste, then a long and hot finish, with plenty of black pepper and bite, but a long finish of dark chocolate and red jelly beans. Very tasty - a reliably good port. 89/100. Drunk 06-Sep-12 after 1½ hour decant.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Re: 1983 Warre vintage port
I feel that Warre did not suffer an 80's dip in form to the same degree as some other venerable port houses. But then I could be biased due to my like of this house.
