1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

The last but one of my bottles from this vintage, opened today to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our wedding.

EAB described this as smooth, full-bodied and well rounded; full of taste with balance and complexity. Lots of depth and length.

Beautiful colour, brick red and crystal clear. Expressive on the nose, with huge levels of cedar wood and tobacco and vague blackcurrant tones. Perfect poise and balance on the palate; rich and flavoursome with concentrated fruit and mildly assertive, dry tannins. Sweet fruit shows over the top of all the structural elements, dominating the aftertaste before a long finish develops of sweet fruit and cedar wood.

This is a fabulous wine, with perfect balance and sweet and concentrated fruit. Just superb and with decades of life ahead of it. 98/100. Drunk 30 August 2012 after a 3 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Its wonderful when a wine that is looked forward to performs to one's expectations. Congrats on the milestone as well.

Can't believe I missed this note!

Happy 25th anniversary, Alex.

Sounds like a smashing wine and agree that it is great when special bottles show up for special occasions.

Hope to see you this fall!

cheers
