Ports with the maximum points

Post by Axel P »

This post is to try to summ up the Ports which received the highest possible points in the respective system, i.e. 100/100 or 20/20, which you ever granted, so please feel free to add.

Mine were:

Croft 1945
Dow 1945
Fonseca 1948
Noval Nacional 1963
Noval Nacional 1997
Niepoort 1945

I've only ever given 100/100 to one wine on one occasion, that was Noval Nacional with 24 hours in the decanter.

There have been a few near-misses: Croft '27, Croft '45, Graham '27 and Warre '22 which all received 99/100.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny

I have also only ever awarded a Port a perfect score once - to the 1906 Brunheda Colheita. I've never tasted a Ruby worthy of a perfect score, though I've been in the 97-99 range several times.

Highest rated ports I have had without thinking too much:

1908 Grahams
1931 Noval
1945 Croft
1948 Taylor
1952 Delaforce Colheita
1970 Niepoort

None were scored "100", but probably should've been.

likewise i have never yet scored a perfect 100.

and i hope not to be pilloried when i state that the closest i have got is not a port, but a 1961 Leoville Las Cases....(the memory of which continues, to this day, to haunt me in a "you'll NEVER taste better" kind of way).
