1 x Vesuvio 1996

Purchased at Harvy Nichols - I was taking advantage of the American Express promotion (spend £25/receive £25 rebate) so the wine cost me not very much at all.

A case of Graham 1897 magnums from the cellars of La Tour d'Argent restaurant in Paris, shared with AHB

Price - a mere £9440 (inc BP)

- is this a new record for a case of port?

Impressive, but Nacional 63 must be more per case!

It's nowhere near the record for a case of port. On 23rd November 2012, Christie's in Hong Kong sold a case of Nacional 1963 for £25,098 (inc. bp).

Just 5 years before that, a case of Nacional 1963 sold at Christie's in New York for £1,167. Who says port prices haven't risen at the top end?
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Christmas Day produced an "ooh" with a Morgan 66

Any offers around in the area? Christmas caused a bit of a hit on the stocks

Tesco appear to be re-filling their boots with Croft LBV 2004 halves. Having purchased somewhere in the region of two gross, and having one gross left in my cellar, I am reluctant to purchase more for my own use. (reluctant = don't rule it out)

If those whom I see regularly want some could they please let me know and I will buy transportable amounts on your behalf when I see them on the shelf.

Be a little cautious. A couple of the people I was with on Tuesday feel that the G77 is a little closed at the moment and was better / will be better with a couple more years in the bottle. Perhaps it's going through the phase that the Taylor 1985 was going through around 2009.

However, having provided their point of view I can now also say that I love this port and really enjoy drinking it.

Delighted to finally post after lurking for so long, and thank you for the note about the 77 Graham. It has been some time since I last had it, and whilst a pleasure, it certainly does not approach the 1966 or 1970 - thus, I feel compelled to reconfirm those impressions. Have had a couple of the 1992 Niepoort, but definitely too young.

Recent purchases include single bottles of:

'60 Croft
'66 Taylor
'67 Cockburn (consumed)
'70 Warre (consumed)
'85 Taylor
'97 QdV
'00 Skeffington

and a case of Noval '94.

The remaining singles are primarily intended for future TPF events. I was hoping that I could offload these to a kind soul who may have better storage space and better discipline than myself. At the moment i keep them in the office and I am awfully trigger happy. If any of the UK-based regulars are able to house some bottles for TPF events, please let me know. The case will go to storage where it is beyond my greedy reach.

I like the 1991 FG; it's drinking very nicely now but will get gradually better over the next 20 years. Half bottles are probably perfect for current drinking.
