1963 Fonseca vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottle d.

The forth of 8 bottles from the single lot of unknowns bought at auction. Modest red colour, quite light in tone; 40% opaque. Hot on the nose, not showing much other than the spirit. Medium bodied, less sweet then the previous bottles [which turned out all to have been Dow 1960] and tasting younger with firmer tannins and more fruit. There is a flash of sweet fruit and then a charcoal dominated aftertaste where the fruit fades quickly to a modest level and then persists at that level for some time. Served blind this was guessed to be Taylor 1970. 87/100. Drunk 23 April 2013 with a 6 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
