Re: Latest buy
I'm in the market for every day drinkers of the bargain types we have seen in this thread and some "thoroughly good enough" VPs.
Doesn't seem that there's many offers around on either?
If anyone has any VPs that are good and sound but simply not "good enough" for their cellars...this year I've had a Noval 70, a Morgan 66 and another 70 that may have been a Dow. I got just as much pleasure from much lesser VPs so I may now skip the higher ends and enjoy multiple bottles of "good enough" VP rather than single bottles or truly superb.
If anyone knows of every day bargains please let me know and anyone with VPs for disposal, please PM me.

Re: Latest buy
Amongst all the 2011 excitement, i relieved BBR of their remaining 5 bottles of Vesuvio 98 at £35 per bottle all-in. A price that i think this port is well worth, and i can imagine i'll have occasion to drink all of these by the end of the year. 3 bottles are left in their bin-end store in Basingstoke - if anyone i see regularly is visiting soon, please keep a look-out on my behalf.

Re: Latest buy
I had wanted to buy a full 6-pack, which they usually do at the "case discount" price (i.e. 10% off). However, between my email and the confirmation a single bottle was purchased online, meaning that the case was split and i couldn't take delivery in bond (which is what i had originally wanted for the moment while i finished off the previous 6-pack of this stuff!). The further discount was therefore a goodwill gesture and probably a sign that i spend far too much with them on wine/port and storage throughout the rest of the year!djewesbury wrote:Very good price and a tenner off what they were asking.. did that take much haggling??RAYC wrote:£35 per bottle all-in.
In addition, a number of other bottles of V98 had been sent to the bin-end store in the last fortnight - i suspect they are also sitting there at £35...

Re: Latest buy
Due to its stellar performance at the FTLOP 1983 Retrospective, I picked up 5 bottles (all that were available) of the 1983 Ramos Pinto Vintage Port for $50 each. To round out the shipping container, I also picked up a 1976 Smith Woodhouse LBV for $25.
I think I'm actually more excited about the LBV... what a great price for such an old LBV!

1997 Graham 6 bottles
2000 Graham 9 bottles
2000 Dow 8 bottles
1983 Fonseca 5 bottles
1985 Warre 3 bottles
Having just finished a case of the 1983 Fonseca, I know that to be good - and developed nicely over the years. really looking forward to the 1970 Graham - one of my favourites.
Should be enough for October and November - and maybe an extra week or two if I catch a cold.
Trying to arrange storage at FRW now.

Auction vs retail. Almost all of my purchasing is at retail over the internet.g-man wrote:i now have 4 cases of F85 @ avg price of 76$/btl
Average price of F85 and G85 is pretty similar at retail, and typically ranges between $85 and $90. I'll buy either at $80 because that's as low as I've seen either at retail for a while.
I've seen G85 as low as $65 at auction, but wasn't in a position to strike when I saw it. Unlike G-man, I don't haunt the auction scene so I don't get the same great deals that he and SushiNorth find.

Just one child - a college aged daughter (my wife and I got it right the first time). Thus it will probably almost ready for the wedding of one of her kids (she has none yet of which I am aware), or my funeral (a couple of friends have already volunteered the service of their livers if it is served at my funeral). For it to be perfect, though, 30-40 years might be too soon........ Indeed, if it is as good as hoped, it would be just about right for celebrating England's 1,000th birthday.jdaw1 wrote:Have you children? Will top up with more Fonseca and a dozen each of Taylor, Graham and Noval. That should see the blighter through for a while.
