We have 2 Taylors then?jdaw1 wrote:? = Taylor;
Tom - before I head into the wilds of Essex for Taylors of questionable reputation, maybe I should adopt one of yours. Would that be a good idea? I will PM you now.uncle tom wrote:For those looking to adopt, I also have Taylor, Offley and Rebello Valente available.

Do these statements reconcile?djewesbury wrote:My desire to taste ports I haven't yet tried makes me think this is possibly a favourable option.. although the TN posted doesn't really exalt its virtues..RAYC wrote:... there's some nice-looking stock of Morgan 66 available here...
Ah, yes. Do you mean that my saying that I would avoid a particular wine, based on an unenthusiastic TN, contradicts my wish to explore this vintage thoroughly? Well, I am guided (swayed?) by others' opinions, as a prelude to forming my own; and when we have finite scope in a single evening to taste wine from this vintage, I suppose I prioritise some more established or reliable names over others. Once those are confirmed, I am happy to roam far and wide through the wines of 66. Is that not the best way to further my education?RAYC wrote:djewesbury wrote:I think for this tasting I'd like to know what I'm drinking. Less of that... Are you being helpful, jdaw1?jdaw1 wrote:How long have you two been married?
If now's not the occasion for your Croft, THRA has a Rebello up for adoption.benread wrote:Subject to nothing changing with Mrs Read's schedule next week, it loooks like I am able to join you. The only 66 I have is Croft which was a present from my father and I think had been in his cellar for 40 odd years. Croft has already been promised though, so does anyone have anything to offer for adoption please? (Assuming Chris is still planning on bringing this.)
Are there any lesser 66s we're missing / can get hold of?RAYC wrote:Question: if we have covered the main 66s, should we be looking at a couple of choice 67s (eg: Sandeman, Martinez, Cockburn) for any additional bottles that are needed?
Including Constantino and Messias Quinta do Cachão.RAYC wrote:No doubt there are others as well.
For ports with enough age to be at risk, I don’t mind duplication. And if both are fabulous, well, is that so terrible?RAYC wrote:without resorting to duplication
A very good point.jdaw1 wrote:For ports with enough age to be at risk, I don’t mind duplication. And if both are fabulous, well, is that so terrible?RAYC wrote:without resorting to duplication
I wouldn’t want you to be needled by the asymmetry. Sure subject to a broader consensus.DRT wrote:Should we buy a team Niepoort 1966 to make it six on each page?
I have corrected my question in this post.jdaw1 wrote:I wouldn’t want you to be needled by the asymmetry. Sure subject to a broader consensus.DRT wrote:Should we buy a team Niepoort 1966 {WARNING: tenuous attempt at a reasonable argument approaching} to make it six on each page?
we currently have but one bottle per person.DRT wrote:Eight mouths and eleven Ports is almost enough for a school night.
In general i'm not a fan of shipping bottles within the last month to six weeks before a tasting, since i think i have found more success from my own bottles when adopting WS1's regime. My vote would therefore be for a confirmed Dow 66 before chasing down EUR200+ bottles of unknown provenance from Europe. However, i am happy to stump up if others want (subject to a minimum of a three-way split of the cost)DRT wrote:

There have been recent developments which have not been reflected in CSD's first post, but which have been in jdaw1's placemats...(clue is in the circlearrays)DRT wrote:DRT wrote:Eight mouths and eleven Ports is almost enough for a school night.RAYC wrote:we currently have but one bottle per person.Eight people.Chris Doty wrote:CSD - Croft

!RAYC wrote:In terms of adoption, i don't know whether jdaw1's +1 has taken the other port you refer to but there might be a Niepoort 1966 available to adopt for EUR250ish - as a combined contribution with the Offley (split between two people), that's probably top end in financial terms but not out of line with what DRT is contributing and probably a good "last minute" option.
