1996 Chateau Palmer, Margaux

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

55% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot, 4% cabernet franc, 1% petit verdot. Starting to show signs of maturity, 70% opaque, with a brick red rim. Huge nose, full of cedar wood and pencil shavings with violets all over it ”“ truly wonderful. Sweet fruit on entry, with the dry tannins lurking behind the fruit. Sweet and balanced fruit on the palate, quite developed and mature. Lovely development with multiple layers of flavour. Big and fruity aftertaste and a lingering, ethereal finish of immense length. A really exquisite wine. Drinking now. 95/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
