Port Tawny Sandeman

Post by desconecedor »

Hi,

I have a botlle of Tawny Sandeman but it doesnt tell the year of production. It's old and
I would like to know. I took some codes from the botlle's glass:

SC32-150160
AK204572
S6RL

The glass is wider on the top, I think you can tell the decade by the look. Can anyone help?

A "1-star". DRT has the info on these IIRC.

My hazy memory is remembering a 1-star was the lowest end and 3-star was the highest end. That being the case you have an old basic Tawny Port.

I think that is correct, Andy.

Sandeman used to grade many of their basic ruby and tawny ports with the three star system. From the look of the label and the style of selo I would guess this to be from the 1950s or 1960s. Given that it is the lowest quality tawny they produced I wouldn't hold out much hope for the contents being particularly enjoyable.
