Criminal?

Post by DRT »

Looking for books on a well known internet site I came across this...

The bottle pictured is obviously suffering from Niepoort 1997 syndrome. The price is quite astonishing.

I hope no one is niaive enough to be taken in by this seller.

It says 'x24'. That would be £71 each. But yes I have noticed a rash of implausibly priced things on this and other, similar websites.

It is a very clever shop. You go in for a book and they sell Port at the till.

Yes. But you can buy it (if you are stupid) for £400ish per case of 12.

Oh I know. Believe me, I know. Funny that they chose to photograph such an afflicted bottle..

By strange coincidence I have 12 bottles of this wonderful stuff.

Would you like to buy it from me for £4,567.54 per case of six packed in wood and cling-film?

Sorry, I've decided I can't let them go so cheaply. I'd be giving up the chance of so much Port reduction sauce.

Yesterday whilst searching eBay, I came across a raft of items that should have had prices around the £1-£2 mark, that were priced at over £1,000.

Perhaps one of the online retail platforms has gone off the rails..

I seem to be lucky. I have never encountered Niepoort 1997 syndrome, and in fact my remaining 5 bottles are all pristine. I had 6, but felt that I needed to perform quality assurance on one bottle after first hearing of this nefarious malady.

When I last checked with Seckfords my case was in good condition with no leakers. Perhaps it is time to check again.

I wonder whether now is the time to remind you of this?
