Doh - I meant the ones that were born to members since
started. I can name a few but thought it best if said members updated it themselves.

Luka, 15th April 2010.
Born in what will either proof to be the next worst vintage ever after 1993 (if the rains continue) or the vintage of the century (if my dreams come true).

Slightly early but..Isla (subject to change) due 27th July 2010...makes me a Grandpapa for the first time.
Hence my urgent need to tread some grapes for this vintage (declared or otherwise)... if anyone is listening!!

Now that the M-i-L has been informed, I am permitted to announce Read jr II. He / she will be more formally named around 1st December 2010.
In the meantime, I can report that the current growing conditions for vintage port have been considered favourable to the extent I was able to establish this over the last few days in the Douro!

Great news Ben, congratulations!
Re: The Port Forum Babies and their Vintages
Ben: this is a grave responsibility. A new duty has landed on your shoulders shoulders already heavily burdened, but doubtless broad enough for the task.
Until December it falls to you to drink your wife’s share of the port. Do not fail.

Re: The Port Forum Babies and their Vintages
The latest update to this is that Read jr II is a 'little' brother for Edward! The word little is perhaps used incorrectly as he was described as having a stomach above the 95th percentile in terms of size. Like his father already!benread wrote:Now that the M-i-L has been informed, I am permitted to announce Read jr II. He / she will be more formally named around 1st December 2010.

Re: The Port Forum Babies and their Vintages
Jesper on 24 March 2005 (a solid SQ Vintage year) and top Bordeaux vintage)
;
Thijmen on 11 January 2007 (looks to be a great to classic Vintage)
.
This, I'm sure is compensation for the fact that my birthyear was an absolute rubbish year for about any kind of wine (1973)
. On the other hand, the Mrs is from 1977 (much better!)
.
Btw, if anyone has any good tips for (affordable) VP's from 1977, I would be most gratefull (I only have 2 bottles of 1977 Graham's which I picked up at an auction some time ago, and would love to have some more bottles from this vintage).

Jonathan Kenneth Frederick Read. Born 16th November 2010 @ 1am.
All the medical inducement could not induce him to arrive as planned, and originally started some 40 hours earlier! A swift an unplanned trip to the operating theatre dealt with that.
My proudest moment - I managed not to feint in the operating theatre!

Re: The Port Forum Babies and their Vintages
Congrats to you both - all three of you now! Gone are the days of being able to drink port. Now you have to be able to drag yourself out of bed at mindless o'clock to see to the baby's every need.
I do recall Elizabeth once coming into Michael's bedroom when he was very difficult to settle at a few months of age, to find out what I was saying to him that seemed to keep him very calm and quite - I was reading to him from a collection of John Arlott's writings on wine! I've still got the book if you need to borrow it!
