WOTY 2013

Post by Chris Doty »

Seems like as good as time as any to get the WOTY 2013 thread going (apologies if it already exists and I've missed it).

There were a lot of fantastic occasions to catch up with friends and drink some great wines in 2013, but my voting this year is very easy.

Best new release of 2013: 2011 Quevedo Vintage Port
Best bottle of port consumed in 2013: 1945 Taylor

Yours?

My most memorable WOTY was my first tasting of Noval Nacional 1931. It was not the best wine tasted that night, but it sticks in the memory for obvious reasons.

My favourite newly-released VP was Dow 2011.

Can we change the title of this thread to "Doty's Woty"?

My favourite 2011 was the Quinta de la Rosa, which I tasted at leisure, followed by the Dow, which I had only briefly at the BFT.

My best 2011s (all tasted blind) were Graham, Senhora do Convento, Nacional and Vargellas Vinha Velha.

My best wine this year was the Noval 1931, which I thought was just stunning.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Best wine of the year(and any other year) was Taylors 1945. I suspect it may be some time before I taste anything as good again.

Favourite new 2011 releases (in no order): Dow, Fonseca, Vesuvio Capela, Quevedo

My favourite wine of 2013 (so far) would be a Niepoort '42 which I was lucky enough to try twice thanks to Dirk's generosity; absolutely stunning wine, closely followed by a Cockburn '45.

I'd say that the one port that blew me away in 2013 was a stunning bottle of 1927 Fonseca. I must say that it was a close call between the Fonseca and a bottle of 1945 Noval Nacional that was spectacular.

Hi,

my WOTY was Ygay Especial 1925 followed closely by and averaged Reserve de Celstins from the 70s. Port of the year was Noval Nacional 1963 at Alex birthday party. Brilliant!
