1997 Quinta do Vesuvio

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep red with some bricking; 70% opaque. Soft red fruit syrup and a gentle rhubarb with lots of green herbs on the nose. A surprising lack of fruit on impact but brings a concentrated sweetness. Plenty of dry tannins and elegant acidity. Some cranberry syrup comes through on the palate and leads to a gentle aftertaste and lingering licorice root finish. Rather closed. 86/100. Drunk at the BBR Port Walk on 28 November 2013.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
