1995 Quinta do Vesuvio

Post by jdaw1 »

People gathered in the Bung Hole to do the obvious. There was a chance of being joined by a newbie, to sample his TV64, but he was a no-show.

Similar colour to OBV 83. Very dark, maybe 80%. Strong, overpowering smell of berries and vanilla (only detected after DRT mentioned it). Jammy taste that didn't last longer than 30 seconds. Consider buying more.

Deep red in colour, just starting to soften on the rim; 95% opaque. Lovely nose, full of attractive morello cherry fruit on the huge nose. Powerful, sweet cherry fruit also dominates the palate. Lovely ripe tannins support a big flavoured palate with lots of fruit. Simple but with a big presence and well balanced. Lovely big aftertaste and a long length. Fine port, but rather straightforward on this showing. 86/100. 14 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
