1995 Cadet Piola

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Nosing of austere fruit. Medium- to light-bodied on the palate with the fruit subdued and dominated by tannins that were full of wood-sap flavours. Rescued by a magnificent aftertaste and tremendous length finish. Just about value for money at £27, but only just. Mrs AHB and I were slightly disappointed - "Not a Talbot 1983" as she put it, (but it is a third of the price). 81/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Old Cadet Piolas as well as the younger generation (2000 onwards ) are really good. This is a chateau with pedigree! As with so many estates low investments in the 70s and 80s had impacted the quality of the wines. I had intended to buy 2005s but left it then due to bought anyway too much.....
. At 27GBP no longer a bargain. :(
