Excellent - I shall endeavour to make sure the toe gets wet. Let me add you to the reserve list - without making any rash promises, I would be astounded if we can find a date that all 10 + 4 potential reconfirms + 1 reserve can make, so I think it fairly probable you will have a place.DaveRL wrote:I hesitate to confuse things further! I wonder if I could put myself down as a reserve, or even attendee if currently room, at what would be my first offline (although perhaps depends a little on which date gets chosen).
Still, toe in the water etc. ......
I have a few 97s to offer - Dow here, and have some Fonseca, Taylor, Croft Roeda and Vesuvio in storage I could get hold of. Otherwise adopt?

Unfortunately I cannot make it on the day since I am returning from a longer Porto/Douro trip the day before. I would really like to participate in terms of getting samples send. Would anyone volunteer for sending these. Fully paying is guaranteed as well as the coverage for the shipment.
If you manage to get the seats full, I certainly withdraw.

I will happily volunteer but posting samples internationally in late June carries a significant risk of them being boiled before they arrive. Are you sure you want to take that risk?Axel P wrote:Would anyone volunteer for sending these.

Yes, I am fully aware of this and willing (musting) to take the risk. Thanks, Derek.

Any way you can reroute through London on way home? Also, the date may change in any case...currently in the process of trying to resolve thatAxel P wrote:Unfortunately I cannot make it on the day since I am returning from a longer Porto/Douro trip the day before.

The rerouting of the plane is not the problem, but rather the fact that the key wiill not fit in my lock at home if I stay away for too long

Re: 1997 Maturity Evaluation, TBH, Thurs 15 May 2014
DATE REVISED - now Thursday 15 May 2014. Based on the various responses received, this date is a yes/poss for everyone who has replied. Let me know if you CAN'T make it.
Re: 1997 Maturity Evaluation, TBH, Mon 16 June 2014
OK last change I promise! Revised again as Daniel can't make 15 May and I screwed up and didn't realise CPR couldn't make that date either.
So, now MONDAY 16 JUNE
Seems like lots can make that.

Do we want a James Joyce theme on the placemats?

OK just looking to take stock on the 97 horizontal and determine which bottles nobody has available and which I will try and source. As it stands, if the folks in the first post above bring as promised, then we are missing:
AHB - I've put you down for Martinez, the Warre you offered would also help.
If anyone can supply any of the rest of these then please shout, otherwise on 12 May I will go searching to buy them and have them arrive with some time to rest.
I'm not even sure if Sandeman was declared - does anyone know? I can't find a bottle on offer anywhere, so I'll also get a Churchill as a backup. Of the rest, I think I can get all of them.
- Cockburn;
- Gould Campbell;
- Morgan;
- Offley;
- Quarles Harris;
- Ramos;
- Sandeman
- Taylor;
- Warre.

Great. I'll bring Fonseca and Taylor. I'll get them out of storage.
First off line- any tips on preferred decanting times/procedures, and when to bring bottles etc.? Thanks.

Thx Dave. Top post updated.DaveRL wrote:Great. I'll bring Fonseca and Taylor. I'll get them out of storage.

Most of us (? ) are at work during the day before these tasting, so often the practice is to double decant first thing in the morning then appear with decanted bottle at around 1830. And in this case as the juice is relatively young, this longer decant time is preferable. Given there look like being circa 18 bottles x 12 people = 216 glasses, if anyone can either get there a little early or leave said decanted bottle with the kind and helpful folks at TBH earlier in the day, this facilitates pouring of glasses in advance.

Welcome cedars28 - pls post a quick intro about yourself in the Introductions section. And I now have someone to help with pouring on the day!
Re: 1997 Maturity Evaluation, TBH, Mon 16 June 2014
The current draft of the placemats. PNGs to follow later.
Four A4 pages uses too much space for The Bung Hole. If the final list of ports is more than eighteen, I’ll move at least some to an A3 sheet.

In terms of the 'missing' bottles from this horizontal, I am driving past Four walls Wine in the next week and am happy to secure a bottle of the RP, which they seem to have at a reasonable price.
Re: 1997 Maturity Evaluation, TBH, Mon 16 June 2014

Re: 1997 Maturity Evaluation, TBH, Mon 16 June 2014
Thank you Julian. I had been pondering Daniel's suggestion of a James Joyce theme, me being Irish and all that. As 16 June is Bloomsday, and there are 18 episodes in Ulysses...seems like a good opportunity.jdaw1 wrote:The current draft of the placemats. PNGs to follow later.

Also Bloomsday requires exactly eighteen, no extras, no omissions.
And please may I edit the first post to add placemats and images thereof?
Re: 1997 Maturity Evaluation, TBH, Mon 16 June 2014
Of course, and thank you.jdaw1 wrote:And please may I edit the first post to add placemats and images thereof?
I can't find any Sandeman, so Churchill is promoted from the subs bench, giving us exactly 18, one of which is a double magnum.jdaw1 wrote:Four A4 pages uses too much space for The Bung Hole. If the final list of ports is more than eighteen, I’ll move at least some to an A3 sheet.
