I really do hope that 2008 will be a stunning vintage for port and all other wines (especially Bordeaux and German riesling), because LadyR and I will get married January 18th.
The odds are against me though... The only other '8s that are good VP years in the last century are 1948 and 1908.... I should have thought of this before and asked LadyR earlier so that we could still plan it in 2007. The '7' years are much better represented...
As far as I am aware you are the first man ever to find a willing bride who is just as passionate about port as the groom is. This is a world first and an experiment in what could become a new way forward for port-lovers around the world.

Ronald, as you know I am delighted for both of you. I have finally got a response from my manager of "We should be able to do something", so I am hopeful of making the whole thing. It is even possible that you will finally meet Treacle... assuming I can get hold of the right agency
I very much hope 2008 is a blockbuster also, but for a different reason.
The 2007 vintage was compromised by a late start, low temperatures and an early bath. Despite that, the main producers have been talking it up - leading me to suspect that the need for a vintage declaration may prevail against the vintage-worthiness of the year - as happened in '75..
However, if 2008 proves to be stellar, the shippers will almost certainly abandon the plan to declare '07 and go the extra year..

I haven’t met LadyR, so can’t (yet) comment on fabulousness for myself, but everyone who has met her thinks she’s fab, which is good enough for me† . Well done.

I just try to think of a disadvantage of such a marriage. But besides the fact that you always have to share your stuff, at least you have someone, which we all don't, who motivates you to open a decend bottle once in a while...

2. We didn't want to spend a fortune on port because most of the dinner crowd will not appreciate it, but we did want it to be good
3. We wanted to serve only one port
4. We wanted to take the average of our birth years (because I'm too proud to be drinking 1977's because of my poop birth year)
We chose the one single port from that year with a very good reputation.
knowing that 77 is (much) better than 75, I would still go for a 75, because the 75 gives you a much better price/value ratio than the 77.
I think that not all of your guests are port-freaks, so the 75 will definitely do his job. Something like a Grahams Magnum would be my best guess.
My wife and I am from 1970, so we dont have this choice...
